We were, by far, the worst yard on the block! We have just been so busy and the weeds grow so fast. It got to the point where they were taller than me and EVERYWHERE!!! We finally have the money and time to do our fence, sprinklers, sod, gravel, etc. So, yesterday my parents came over and so did Juan (Rick's good friend) with his bobcat. Let me just tell you that it was the hardest day of work that I have done in years. We pulled weeds in 95 degree heat for almost 10 hours!!! That is how long it took to get our weeds out. Finally, it was done. Yay!!!

The most exciting part about our yard is the fact that our dogs will now have somewhere to go. I don't think anyone understands (unless you have 2 dogs and no yard) what it is like to take two dogs on leashes 5 times+ a day to go to the bathroom. Not to mention that Allie is so picky about where she goes and circles in place for about 20 minutes, no joke! It gets SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO old! What I wouldn't give to just open a door and let them have their "time" to go. Well, that will be happening soon!!! Yayayayaayyaay!

Here are some pictures of the last batch of weeds to take to the dump. With three trucks/trailers and about 10 trips to the dump, it was finally done. Here is half of a load/trip's pictures:

Caitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-81944918696698420642010-09-05T19:53:00.001-07:002010-09-05T20:47:12.972-07:00Our new additon to the family, Gracie
Here she is! So, I was watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory last night and i seriously couldn't stop laughing! All the jokes were so funny and they just kept coming!

Here are a few that i found extremely humorous:

-"What is this place, some kind of funhouse?" "Why, having fun?"

-"We'll start the bidding at 1,000 pounds, 1500 pounds, 5000 pounds, your majesty!!!"

-"What did they ask for, whatever it is they can have it!" "They want your case of wonka bars. Ms Curtis, did you hear me it's your husband's life or your case of wonka bars!" "How long will they give me to think it over?"

-"The suspense is terrible. I hope it will last."

-"If the good Lord had intended on us walking he wouldnt have invented roller skates."
-"He can't swim! There's no better time to learn."
-Don't just stand there, do something!" "Help. Police. Murder."

The list goes on...

As I sat there busting a gut, I realized something: I have seen this movie so many, many times and these jokes were never funny to me. Had I been not really watching this movie? Have the jokes changed? It then hit me...I am getting old and jokes that weren't funny to me are now hilarious! This opened up a realm of "realizations" that have made me realize that "I am getting old."

The following are things that make me know I am getting older:

1. Roller coasters now make me a little sick. I used to be OBSESSED with roller coasters! I would sit for hours in a line for a good "coast." Now, I will finish one and think "was that worth 45 minutes of sitting in line for a headache, stomach ache, back ache, and loss of an hour? Don't get me wrong, I still like them, but I am starting to see why older people don't like them. It is illogical to wait for so long to get tossed around in a metal cart.

1a. From the age of 11-15, I went to Seven Peaks almost every day in the summer. Going that many times still never got old. I adored it. Even in college, it was a good day when my friends and I would go to Seven Peaks. The boomerang, Free Fall, rope swing, lily pads, etc. never failed for me. Well, Layni and I went to the Peaks this summer and it was a very different experience. I chickened out on the boomerang, went down freefall and couldn't believe I did that to myself (those who have been on it know that it really hurts your back and hips and it just isn't worth it to me anymore), I wish I had brought a book to read (Are you kidding me? I used to make fun of my mom so much for wanting to "sit in the shade and read at Seven Peaks"), sat in the the shallow end of the wave pool for about two hours, went on the rope swing and it didn't entertain me at all, went in the adult pool place by the hot tubs and thought "What are all these annoying little kids doing in this spot? Stop splashing me! Get out of here!" -okay grandma! Etc. Etc. Etc. Long story short, Seven Peaks isn't the same anymore...

2. I am speaking like an elderly. I now say things like "Wild, Wonderful, Silly, Great, Fantastic, Cooky, etc. Those that are reading and are on the older side know you say these things and know that I have now joined you.

3. I went to bed at 9:15 last night. 9:15!!! I was so excited too! I was wearing my nightie (long t-shirt-like dress thing, so grandma), and was thrilled to be in bed early. Joke, Joke, Joke!!!!!

All-in-all, I am turning into an old prune. An old prune that loves her life! I am pefectly happy with all these changes and can't wait for the changes up ahead!

-CaitCaitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-12576561538637851752010-09-03T11:33:00.000-07:002010-09-03T11:51:30.236-07:00Hello World!!! Remember Me?Wow, it sure has been a long time since we have blogged. I feel like life gets busier and busier by the day, and I don't even have kids yet!

Well, the reason I have decided to begin blogging again (yes, there was a moment when I thought "I am done with blogging") is because I feel like so many funny things happen to me on a daily basis; whether it is from my English students, my cheerleaders, my dogs, or my husband. I feel the need to share them all.
Another thing that I have wanted to start blogging about is my obsession with home improvements "aka" things I do to my house and yard. I have been told that I am very unique and thoughtful about how I decorate my house with what things I do to it, and just my ideas. I got that from my mom, who, if you know her AT ALL, know that she is beyond obsessed with her house, her yard, her cooking, and her antiques.
Growing up, I always hated how we would eat such gourmet food. I would always beg her saying "Please let us eat hot dogs or sloppy joes like every other family." I was clearly in the faze of fitting in and it didn't help when my friends would come over for dinner and be eating "every-bean-known-to-man casserole on top of a prune and squash risotto (totally made up, but funny ha). Now I have learned to adore her cooking, excluding the occasional "blue cheese-stuffed bell pepper" or "cranberry hamburgers."
The same goes for her decor. I have learned that I like to decorate just like she does! I find myself, every time I go over there, trying to steal something from her house without her noticing lol.

Long story short, I have learned that I am becoming my mom in every way and I am perfectly happy with it. In fact, I love it!
So, I will be blogging about my home "stuff" that I do, as well as funny things that happen to me daily.

Enjoy!!Caitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-77375019829495092712010-01-31T21:00:00.000-08:002010-01-31T21:42:28.816-08:00Disneyland!!!
So, for our Christmas present, Bryce and I went to Disneyland over New Year's. It was so much fun, but so crazy!! I have never been so close to so many people at one time. It was shoulder-to-shoulder the entire time. It was so much fun though! I think this new way of thinking has come about from some pretty negative things that have been happening in my life right now.

I have been having some severe struggles with cheerleading parents (one couple in particular). I will not bore you with all the details, but it has caused me much trouble, pain, and sleepless nights. The COOL thing is that the Lord works in mysterious and sometimes weird ways. Ever since I have been dealing with these problems, I have, for some odd reason, been way more into teaching. I think it is because I am getting ridiculed so much for being such a "mean and bad coach" that I have seen how much I am NOT like that and how much I truly love my kids. I don't know if I can put all these feelings into words, but the light at the end of the dark tunnel is here and I am loving teaching.

For example, today I had to run down to the office and figure a few things out while my 3rd period students were silently reading. I come back to class to find my podium up against the door, both garbage cans, and a student, one of my favorites, recording me as I walk in. Most teachers, including myself on most days, would have freaked out and given them a huge assignment to do or something. I just laughed and made them write triple the amount of work lol. BUT I was smiling the whole time. It turns out that they are making a teacher documentary. I now think they are funny, but I won't tell them that. High school kids are just fun, once you have their respect, and the relationship between you and them starts to build. I am just loving it!

That is all.Caitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-63471580052415807372009-10-18T17:12:00.000-07:002009-10-18T17:38:11.149-07:00A WICKED weekend...My sisters, mom, and I flew to Denver this weekend to go see the musical "Wicked." It was the most amazing musical in the entire world! I could watch it every single day for the rest of my life! It was such a great time with my sisters and my mommy. We loved it! Here are some pics.

Layni and me

Our hotel (The Curtis) was so fun! Every floor had a different theme. Our floor was the "fun and games floor" and every time our elevator would stop on our floor it would play "The Price is Right" music. There were sixteen floors including: the horror floor on the 13th of course, the LOL floor, the big hair floor, the chick flick floor, etc. It was so much fun! I am teaching at Maple Mountain High School and coaching cheer as well. Coaching is a full-time job all by itself, and I have been doing that since March, so now that teaching has finally come into the picture, I am overloaded! Let's talk about the good parts:

1. I have my OWN classroom! That might seem like a no-brainer to the general folk, but I didn't have a classroom last year, and I DIED!!!! It was the craziest experience of my life. Not only did I teach in 3 different classrooms, but they were in 3 different buildings!!! So that is a big plus!

2. I only have to teach 5 classes, instead of last year's 7. This is huge. That is ~80 students LESS, which makes grading papers 80 times easier.

3. I teach a block away from my house. This is so nice! I don't have to wake up way early just to drive for 25 minutes and wait in Lehi main street traffic to and from school.

4. I am not a first year teacher anymore!!! This is the best. I am considered a semi-normal teacher now lol.

5. Less classroom management, more teaching! This is wonderful. I taught 7th and 8th graders last year and spent most of the class period managing them in class. Now that I am teaching 10th and 11th, I can pretty much teach. They have matured, and listen so much better.

6. Our English Dept. has about 100 classroom sets of novels. Think about a book you want to teach, and we probably have it. This is so nice!

I could go on, but these are the basics. There aren't really any negative things, other than my life is drastically busier. I love it!

Cheer is great, but VERY stressful and time-consuming. I love the girls, and the sport, and that makes it great. We have a football game this Friday vs. Westlake (some of my old students) which will be fun. We love it so much. Allie loves it too, hence the picture below. It is in Spanish Fork right next to the new Maple Mountain High School, where I will be teaching and coaching. There is so much to do i.e painting, more furniture, yardwork, patio, etc. but we are excited to be home owners!

Caitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-64837576360086564482009-04-30T08:25:00.000-07:002009-04-30T08:52:21.895-07:00Marley and Me....thoughts
BEWARE OF A MOVIE SPOILER! Not that you really want to was this show anyway, you will baul your eyes out.

So Bryce rented Marley and Me last night. Let me just tell you that I have very mixed feelings about this film. First off, let me remind you that I cry about everything. I cry when I see a dead animal on the side of the road, I cry at homeless commercials, I cry at random things sometimes, I CRY AT EVERYTHING. So you can imagine my surprise when I was blubbering (literally) like an idiot at a fake movie. It TORE at my heart strings. I loved the movie because I love dogs. My allie bear is my life and I adore her. It was so funny and cute until the dog got sick. That's when the first tear dropped. Marley couldn't make it up the stairs one day and I lost it. Next they throw at me him lying on the ground far away from home preparing to die. Then they say his stomach is failing; then Jennifer Aniston and her children are bauling as Owen Wilson, the father, takes Marley to the vet which they all know is for the last time. DON'T YOU WORRY THAT THEY SHOWED THE VET GIVING MARLEY THE "DEATH SHOT". I HAD TO WATCH HIS EYES SLOWLY CLOSE AND HIS BREATHING SLOWLY STOP! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What psycho director/producer decided to create such a thing?????? Don't get me wrong, it was cute at times, but I felt like I was going to pass out I was crying so much! Bryce said he hasn't EVER cried so much in a movie in his entire life! He was wiping tears away and I was SOBBING! The worst part, is after the horror was finally over I couldn't stop crying. I kept thinking about things that happened in the movie and would start a whole other crying spree. The only positive thing that I got from it is to remember how much I love my dog. She is so precious and like the movie says

"A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if your rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?"

I encourage everyone to go out and buy a dog. They make life amazing. Just don't see the movie or you will never want to feel that hearache one day.

Caitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-17183122859483695372009-04-30T06:50:00.000-07:002009-04-30T08:23:26.024-07:00Mexico cruise!
My family and I went on a 7-day cruise to Mexico. She has always loved to cook and now I am finding a passion for it too. I decided to make a japanese meal one night. I found some copycat recipes from Bennihana's and Tepanyaki. I decided to try out these recipes. Below is garlic chicken lo mein. I put chinese noodles, zuccini, onions, sesame seeds, honey, garlic cloves, chicken, CILANTRO!!! soy sauce, salt, pepper, and a few more ingredients to create this masterpiece. It was so good! I don't think the picture gives it justice.

I also decided to create my favorite salad dressing from Bennihana's and Tepanyaki. If you have tried it, you know how good it is. It is a creamy ginger dressing. Here is the recipe:

1/2 c minced onion
1/2 c sesame seed oil
1/3 c rice vinegar
2 T water
2 T minced fresh ginger
2 T minced fresh celery
2 T Ketchup
4 t Soy Sauce
2 t sugar
2 t lemon juice
1/2 t minced garlic
1/2 t salt
1/2 t ground black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend on high speed for about 30 seconds or until all ginger is pureed. Chill. Makes 1 3/4 cups. (I doubled this recipe)

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; While we were pulling into the hotel I looked up at the Grand America Hotel. I have always wanted to stay there so I said "Can we stay there if we win the lottery or something?" and Bryce just laughed. We went to check into Little America and the woman at the counter said that they had overbooked the hotel. I was a little scared. She then continued by saying that they have upgraded us to the Grand America across the street. Both of our mouths dropped! We couldn't believe it! So we drove across the street and got let out of our car by a man in white gloves. We walked into the hotel and couldn't believe our eyes. It is the prettiest hotel I have ever been in! There was a pot of flowers that was as big as our bedroom. We couldn't stop laughing because we felt so out of place! While we were waiting in line to check into this hotel a man in white gloves came over to us carrying a tray of chocolate chip cookies and said "Sir, Miss, would you like a cookie?" hahahahahahahaha we were like "uhhh......okay!" Again, we felt so out of place! We went up to our room which was actually like five rooms put together. There were three rooms for the bathroom (for the toilet, the shower and bath, and a vanity/closet room, One room for the bed and t.v, and one room for sitting). It was nuts!!!

So then we headed over to a restaurant called Faustinas. It was a beautiful restaurant that served us a 6-course meal. We ordered our drinks (apple juice and diet coke) and then we began our meal. We started off with a pear safron soup, followed by these amazing chicken pillow things with balsamic vinegarette drizzled on top. We then had a house and caesar salad followed by an "intermission" which was a watermelon sorbet. It was supposed to cleanse our palet. We then had our main course which was steak sitting in au jus and pesto sauce with whipped potatoes covered in shitake mushroom chips and tempura'd onions. After that we had dessert which was chocolate-dipped strawberries and chocolate ravioli. Now let me tell you, that ravioli was the best thing I have EVER had!!!! I can't even describe the taste. It was a mixture between cinnamon and honey butter and sugar and yeah! I couldn't believe how good they were. And that was our meal! Everything was portioned so well that I only felt slightly bloated when we left.

When we got back to the hotel, we decided to go swimming. We had to take this special elevator to the "spa" area. The pool had chandeliers hovering above it. Chandeliers?!!!! We, again, remembered that we didn't belong, but we acted like we did. HAHAH it was funny pretending to be snooty. All-in-all it was an amazing night! A night to remember!Caitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-90114645752232450112009-02-17T08:21:00.000-08:002009-02-17T11:05:21.602-08:00
Husband Tag
1. Where did you meet your husband?
We met in a karaoke lounge at Studio 600 in Salt Lake City. It was really weird for me to go up there, because I was done with dances and stuff. But there was this kid that I was going to meet up there and so I decided to go. We got there and it was crazy! There were so many people everywhere! We are not the typical "be cute all night and try to get boys" girls; we are weird. So of course we went up into the karaoke lounge upstairs and listened to crazy, funny people sing. We signed up to sing and were waiting for our turn when Bryce and his friend Matt walked in. Now the people up there, besides us, were weird (not that I'm not weird too lol) but it looked like a star wars convention meets national honor society meets the FFA. There weren't any cute guys up there so imagine our surprise when they walked in. They sat across the room from us. Bryce and I kept making eye contact. I couldn't believe how cute he was!!! It was like my dream guy walked into the room. Seriously! Now there was a table with a chocolate fountain, fruit, chips and salsa, and candy right in front of them. I thought I would get a better look so I went over, grabbed a strawberry, dipped it in chocolate, and walked away/ate it. Now me, being very accident prone, didn't realize that as I was glimpsing over to get a look at the perfect man I missed my mouth with the strawberry and chocolate went all down my face and chin. I turned around and rushed over to my friends who were laughing so hard. So me, right? So we got up to go see when our turn was and when we came back to our seats they were taken. The ONLY seats left were RIGHT NEXT TO BRYCE AND MATT! What are the chances that every single chair is occupied but those ones. So we went and sat down next to them. Sparks flew, emotions ran high, he actually talked to me!!!! That was that. I could not believe how amazingly perfect he was. His smile was huge and straight and white, he was way tall, his outfit was a dream, and his dimple in his chin sold the deal to me. On the way home my friend Jessica said "you are so going to marry him" and I did. Best night ever!
2. How long did you date before you got married?
Seven Months
.
3. I think teachers should get paid extra for teaching on days like today. With the Valegrams of flowers, cookies, love letters, suckers, and teddy bears my classroom looked more like a floral shop than a classroom, and when I thought of teaching? YEAH RIGHT!!! Anyway, that is not the point of my post, THE POINT IS the fact that I love the age I teach. There is something so sweet and dare I say "pure" about 13-year olds. Now don't get me wrong, there are some students that I could definitely live without, but for the most part I love them. Today just reminded me how much I loved, back in the day, being in middle school and junior high.

Reason 1: Girls try SOOOO hard to be cool in jr. high. Once they are in high school they are content with their cool or not-so-cool lives. Like I said before, we had Valegrams passed out today. Well during FIRST PERIOD a lot of girls got carnations or teddy bears, and they carried them around like beauty queens. During FOURTH PERIOD I still had girls holding their flowers while they wrote, in the same hand, or they would pass around their teddy bears like show-and-tell. I thought it was strange for a second. I didn't understand while they didn't just put the stuff in their lockers. Then it dawned on me as I observed a girl smelling her flower and telling a boy that she "doesn't know who gave her the flower". I realized that it was a cool thing to get a Valegram and they needed to show the world that they were cool. I couldn't help but laugh, but I couldn't help but think that I probably did the exact same thing back in the day. Isn't it funny how insecure you are when you are that age?

Reason 2: I have been collecting a pretty good collection of notes passed in my classes. These are the highlight of my day. Especially notes between boys and girls. The typical note goes like this: girl=why are you mad at me? boy= you know why. girl=I really don't know, jessica just told me that she talked to Mike and he said that you were mad at me. What did I do?" boy="You broke my heart. I loved you more than Brittney and you didn't believe me and I don't want to go out anymore" BLAH BLAH BLAH it's so fun. I should photocopy some and post them on here.

Reason 3: The beloved Valentine's dance today after school. It was in the lunchroom in the middle of my school and as I was leaving work I thought I would walk over and observe, from above, my students socializing. Again, there is nothing more pure about this age. As I sat there watching the kids at the dance I had so many flashbacks. I observed girls checking out boys and/or slowly maneuvering their ways close to them, I observed during a slow song the girls getting insecure because they hadn't gotten asked to dance yet so they do the typical "dance with each other instead to be funny" dance. I remember doing that. It made you feel like you were too occupied to even think to dance with a boy. I also saw THE best: A girl and a boy dancing, and the girl's friends behind the boy with their hands over their mouths freaking out and jumping up and down because they were dancing. I remember doing that EXACT thing. I remember my friend Whitney Hill getting asked to dance by JEFF SHOCKLEY and me standing behind him making freakish faces and jumping up and down.

I walked away from observing smiling EAR to EAR! I just love it. They are in their own world, junior high. It made me realize that this critical age in their lives is so precious and I am grateful that I get to be a part of it with them. I would like to thank people like Crystal, Sharly, Melissa, the "6 pack" and all the boys I crushed on like Alex Thorson, Scott Stewart and Miller, Jesse Riggs, and more for making my young adolescent years so memorable!Caitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-49710282624509782302009-02-06T12:11:00.000-08:002009-02-06T12:38:09.845-08:00We Booked Our Cruise!Bryce and I have always said that we want to go on a cruise sometime soon. There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is 'UP.' It's easy to understand ...

UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver; we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP ! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP . When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP... When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP. When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP. One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so........it is time to shut UP!
Caitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-61422797599044417692009-01-26T18:44:00.000-08:002009-01-26T18:45:20.319-08:00Buck up little camper!Just in case anyone's having a bad day:

B-rycehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10120844016393961719noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-45410240644220082882009-01-25T22:13:00.000-08:002009-01-25T22:21:54.158-08:00Allie thinks she's so smart.

Whenever Allie needs water, she'll kick her water dish around to make a sound so we'll hear it and fill her water dish up. They wanted us teachers to tell our students that they will be giving tickets to the pre-screening of the movie on Tuesday, which is tomorrow, to the person who can write the best essay about why they are the biggest Twilight fan. I read it to all to my students. There are a lot of students, mainly boys, who are so anti-Twilight. I decided to take advantage of their hatred, lol. I made a little wager with my students that if I entered the contest and won then all those who have been dogging the books will HAVE to read them. They were so gung-hoe about it! Especially my 3rd period. Well today DURING THIRD PERIOD I get a phone call in my room and it is Barnes and Noble and they said I won the contest! I couldn't stop laughing. I told my students and they started freaking out. I was still on the phone with B&N and they were laughing hysterically. So all of them headed to the library after class to grab Twilight with frowns on their faces. They will thank me someday. Bryce just went and picked up the tickets and I guess there is a whole package of stuff from posters to shirts to trading cards, lol and more. I am excited and my students are not hahahaaCaitlynhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16675796700363863957noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2185173899358698352.post-49286145270129896172008-11-17T14:06:00.000-08:002008-11-17T14:13:40.680-08:00aLLiE's FiRsT SnOw!!!
Here she is sniffing it/checking it all out

Let's do some more sniffing

Now it's time to dig and dig and dig and dig!!!

"Mommy, look look LOOK!!!
